Electronic waste Management
We started with and idea of eco-friendly electronic management project for the Tech fair conducted by our college. We researched on the topic under professor Dr.Shantanu Bhowmik .The project was well recogonised and we won the price for best eco-friendly project. India is in the fourth position in the production of e-waste. Our country only has a capacity to dismantle and recycle only 20% (over 4 lakh tonnes) of its total e-waste. Taking all this into consideration, we wanted to take an initiative towards this issue. We decided to make recycling possible in such a way that people accept recycling as an environment friendly as well as a cost efficient method. We started by collecting e-waste and dismantling them.Followed by separation and segregation. We chose recycled plastic to promote our idea of recycling. The plastic and metal was pulverizized and mixed. It is then set into a mould and compressed into a slab. The slab consisted of 10% metal and 90% recycled polypropene. We stuck to recycled poly propene which itself is a hazardous waste as it was one of the most easily available forms of plastic mostly used in single use plastics.
